Circa 1790. Italian Neoclassical. The Frieze is carved with the Goddess Aurora and the stanchions are the Dancing Girls, one of the masterpieces of Italian sculptor Antonio Canova (1757-1822). This mantel has significant US history with three versions of it appearing in Vermeil Room, the China Room and the Yellow Oval Room. Spectacular details. Museum quality condition.
